The Challenge
The client specifically asked for a nursery that is navy blue and baby pink. She had already picked a crib and dresser to incorporate into my design. A few other things she asked for in the design were: she wanted the space to be uniquely Olivia's, she needed a rocking chair in order to breastfeed her baby, she had blue blinds that were attached to the window that she could not remove. Other than these concerns she had mentioned, she was completely open to anything and everything in the room.
One of the problems I came across in my design were the blinds. Her and her husband tried to remove them from the window but could not remove them, and they weren't the prettiest things to work around. I had a hard time finding a way to incorporate her Woodland themed dresser and crib to a pink and blue floral room. Another challenge I faced was making everything baby safe. I did not want the baby to hurt herself as she learns to walk and play. I designed the room so Olivia could not knock over any furniture or hurt herself on any decor item.
Solution

Color Palette & Walls
I first started off this design finding inspiration pictures. They set the tone for the project and allow me to stay on the right path. Secondly, I picked out the specific color palette based on the inspiration pictures. Once I solidified the colors, I picked wallpaper to add to an accent wall. Then I found a few options for wall colors to test with furniture later. While I was looking at wall colors, I was thinking about the furniture already in the room, and what colors would look good with a gray wood dresser and crib. I ultimately decided to paint the rest of the walls pink.

Furniture Needs
I then started to find all the base furniture in the room. I knew she needed a rocking chair, so that was the first thing I looked for. I decided on a pink chair hoping to pull the painted wall color to the window wall. I didn't want to add more furniture than was needed, since I know babies have a lot of big toys, so I left space in the room for them.

Decorating
Next, I considered how the space should be decorated.. I started with a rug, since I could use the colors in the rug in the decor. Then I picked a bedding and diaper changing table cover so that it was similar to the floral wallpaper, to add some more flowers in the space. After that, I felt the amount of flowers in the room could have distracted from the “woodland animal” atmosphere that the dresser provided, so I started shopping for items with a woodland theme. This eventually led me to pick the gold mirror, gold frame, and the mobile.

Final Touches
As I finished this space, I wanted to add a few more things to make it practical. I added a blue beaded chandelier and a white lamp to use during late night feeds. I added a few more practical items: a side table, ottoman/ floor pouf, and a few aesthetic toys.

Layout
Overall, I tried not to fill the room with too much decor since babies need a lot of space to move and play. With that comes large toys that need a home in the room. There is a lot of empty floor space in my layout for that purpose.
Results
Denise was thrilled when she saw the Nursery design. She loved the blend of girly with Boho. She left me a 5 star review and reordered 3 more rooms from me!
